Energetics- Phase II
This sculpture was originally shown at the Glasgow Buddhist Centre on Sauchiehall Street, where it formed part of a communal installation exploring the Transcendental through the peaceful and turbulent energies of the Buddha Vajrapani.
It turned out, this turbulent energy (and Covid 19!) demanded the closure of the Buddhist centre in its current location. They have moved online until they find more suitable, accessible premises. The ‘Rainy Season Retreat’ was the last of the community events immediately before lockdown in March 2020.
Now this artwork needs to be shown again in a different context. We are all changed unrecognisably from 14 months ago. Wherever we are from in the world, we have gone through so much, both together and apart. The low energy of the depths of winter sunk deeper this year, and the arrival of spring and the hope of seeing our loved ones has raised our spirits again, but with some trepidation. The sculpture now represents not only the transcendental, but also the very earthly energy of human beings in our vulnerability and our hope.
The sculpture was originally mounted above head height, so you looked up to the heavens to view it. Now it sits firmly on the earth, where we take stock and reflect on our place in the world and the responsibility we have to care for it, and our loved ones.
The sculpture is approx. 1.5 x 2m and made from welded steel tube, bar and perforated sheet.
